THE HIKE LIFE, Carlingford, November 17th

Hello hikers!

Finally, the Hike Life is coming to Carlingford. It has been requested so much and I’m sorry it’s taken this long. I’ve visited Carlingford so many times over the years to hike and I can’t wait to do it with you guys. This time we’re going to do a trail I’ve never done before. We have decided to hike the Barnavave Loop Walk, this is a moderate loop and perfect to get a hike in even in the cold wintery days. The hike is limited to 100 people which will require registration (FREE) through Eventbrite.ie which will go live Sunday 10th at 8 pm right on Eventbrite. The hike will be in aid of Cooley Community First Responders, a local group who were chosen by the guides. I would ask if you could all bring a cash donation on the day in return for a great morning out discovering a new trail.

Meeting Point: Big Tree on the Village Green. It’s right on the car park beside the Visit Carlingford Tourist Office.

Google map: Tourist office. It should give you Liberties of Carlingford, Carlingford, Co. Louth, A91 CV06 it will take you right to the carpark.

Start time: 9 am Sharp (please arrive 15 minutes prior as we do not wait).

Duration: 2hour 15 min

Length: 4.7 miles Elevation: 401m

Difficulty: Moderate

Equipment needed:

  • Hiking Boots, walking shoes
  • Raingear
  • Water
  • SPF- even if it’s not sunny!
  • Spare pair of sock/clothes/shoes for after- you don’t need to carry these but have them ready for your return.
  • Determination!

Dogs are not allowed on this hike due to livestock.

Some other bits to know:
The walk is fantastic but it’s important to keep alert, the winds are felt up high, take in the views but be careful to keep your footing especially at the waterfall viewing point.

Also, PLEASE ensure your car is locked and you DO NOT leave anything valuable in there.
Lastly, on these walks we like to practice the principle of “leave no trace” so anything we bring up with us must also come down with us, food wrappers, bottles, even banana peel!
